Zwemmen

Francis is inmiddels al weer vijf maanden oud en vadaag ben ik voor het eerst met hem gaan zwemmen. Ik wilde dit al langer, maar het was lastig om een moment te vinden waarop hij wakker was, gegeten had en er baby zwemles werd gegeven.

Vandaag was het dan zover. Francis in de auto en samen naar het zwembad gereden. Daar in een warm enondiep bad samen met nog ongeveer 10 andere vaders en moeders met babies en peuter een half uurtje gezwommen. Het was natuurlijk de bedoeling dat ik de hele tijd oogcontact met Francis zou maken. Maar hij vond alles zo spannend, het licht, de geluiden, de andere mensen, het water, dat hij helemaal geen oog had voor zijn moeder die hem vasthield. Francis op zijn buikje, Francis op zijn rugje, Francis rechtop, Francis onder water. Dat laatste was nog wel bijzonder spannend.

En toen was het half uurtje zwemles alweer voorbij. Snel zijn we weer naar huis gegaan, waar Francis uitgehongerd aanviel op zijn eten en daarna uitgeput in slaap viel. Ik vond het een groot succes en ik ga zeker vaker met hem zwemmen, maar ik weet niet of ik naar de zwemlessen zal gaan. Ik kan ook met Francis zwemmen zonder dat er een les aan vast zit.

By now Francis is 5 months old and today I went with him to a baby swimming lesson. I have had this plan for some time but it was difficult to fin a time on which he was awake, well fed and the lessons were at the same time.

But today was the day, Francis in the car and we drove to the public pool together. In a warm and shallow pool there were about 10 mothers and fathers with their babies and toddlers who came for a half hour of swimming. I should have made eye contact with Francis all the time, but he was much more interested in the other people, the colors, the water, the sounds and had no time at all for his mother who was holding him up. We did a lot, Francis on his tummy, on his back, upright and under water. That last bit was very exciting for us both.

And then the half hour of lessons was over. Quickly we went home, Francis drank his bottle like he was starving and fell asleep completely pooped. I thought this was a great succes and will certainly go swimming with him again, but I don't know if I will go to the lessons again, I can also go swimming without lessons.
